Open issues/risks
This was proposed by Yoric as a project for his students to work on over six weeks. That seems like a fairly aggressive target, but I'ld like to see this land, and even if they can only get it part of the way there, that's an improvement.
Stage 1: Definition
1. Feature overview
Thunderbird's addressing widget in the Compose Window takes up way too much space for most uses, yet simply making it smaller would negatively impact people who add lots of addresses. To get around this, and make it look and feel nicer, I propose we cut it down to a single line (by default, expanding if there's too many addresses for the single line), and do something similar to Mail.app's Search field (shown in http://breakingtheegg.tumblr.com/post/6289948309/i-think-it-would-be-awfully-cool-if-we-did ).
2. Users & use cases
People who want to send email to one person, or more than four people.
People who want to send email to one person will see more of the content of the email.
People who want to send email to more than four people will see more than four addresses at a time.
