  • Title of session: Build a CodeCards mission
  • Your name and affiliation: Joe Dytrych with Decoded
  • Session format: Design Challenge

What will your session or activity allow people to make, learn or do?

Build a tactile learning activity with CodeCards. We'll start with a demo of CodeCards to show what it is and how it can be used, before brainstorming ideas for tactile learning tools, relating to both the web and computing as well as more traditional (read: boring) subjects. Then we'll have a quick crash-course in developing with CodeCards, before we start building stuff.

How do you see that working?

CodeCards has been designed to be extended, and doing so is super-easy. Ideally, you could go from using CodeCards to learn javascript, straight to writing a mission using what you've learnt.

How will you deal with 5, 15, 50 participants?

We hope to have 5-10 tables by then, as well as a few hundred blank CodeCards for people to write/draw on with wipeable pens. There'll be a few facilitators from Decoded going round helping people, too.

How long within your session before someone else can teach this?

We'll start with having everyone play with CodeCards for 20 minutes or so. After this, participants should all be able to teach anyone else to use CodeCards.

What do you see as outcomes after the festival?

The beginnings of a community surrounding CodeCards, and a few more Missions besides the sample ones.
