Agenda

Discuss Q3 goal updates per team:

  • Client integration (Mossop/rhelmer)
    • plans are solid and implementation has started
    • open issue: complication in supporting a case where a user has a single profile but switches between channels *** how common is this problem? how does this work in balrog? it doesn't, all balrog knows is what you're currently running.
    • Also, we will (?) have a way to have two profiles soon, covering some private browsing use cases which adds further complication.
    • rob is working on a test hello addon that would override content (will share github repo)
  • Build pipeline (mrrrgn)
    • Morgan out of office, no update
  • Test automation (mbrandt or jgriffin)
    • still planning and waiting, we do need sheriffing, do we expect to be able to kick off tests and have an automated way to say what happened (report) and then automatically deploy if its green? We will need a human to look at it
    • Scope: solving for system add-on (non optional firefox things) case for now. We want to avoid building firefox unless we really have to!
    • if one needs a test case, pdf.js is nearly a system addon already
  • IdeaTown (nchapman/jgruen)
    • the new splash page is close to ready to go but release date still TBD.
    • next step after kicking this off and collecting some potential testers is to actually set up installing some add-ons
  • Updates (tarek)
    • tarek on holiday, but sent an update: client side is still on pause but the balrog work on the server side is done and the pull was accepted. needs to be merged and tested.
    • OTA stuff and other stuff about addons - discussion is happening
    • first technical meeting about updates is Wednesday the 12th and will occur weekly, ask Tarek or Larissa if you want to be invited
  • Fat Fennec (richard)
    • Things are entering the funnel/roadmap/margaret's brain; possible people to work on stuff are being lit up.
    • scope is being defined, and once we have the Q3 PRD we look forward to the Q4 bits
      • Scope includes both Fennecish "DLC" stuff and also stuff that would be needed for system add-ons
  • l10n (axel)

re localization of system add-ons:

    • not much to say, we know what we don't know, now.
    • list of questions is being gathered (around 20 of them)
    • need story for the doc by laura/toby for add-on l10n
    • need for a clearer goal statement as well as clearer reasons for the ways the server client integration is being designed IRT localization of system add-ons (and non-system addons, too)

Roundtable and Q&A

  • there is a super drafty PRD... if you want to help with rough construction, speak up, and expect, if you are mossop, richard, margaret, or rob, to hear from us soon asking for feedback. Everyone will see it by next week!
  • review of what a system add-on is and what it isn't (all of which will be in the PRD)
    • system addons vs non system addons (DLCs, like, dev-tools) and then how do things like Idea Town relate?
    • Ideatown is really just regular AMO add-ons as you understand them today *except* that the framing is different, there is a site where users sign up for a feature by feature beta program ("labs" feel) with limited size cohorts.
    • also for now none of this is for third parties at all, its all for regular Firefox things.

Actions:

  • expect possible requests to collaborate on the PRD
  • make sure your q3 goals bugs are linked up (or ask larissa to assist)

Administrivia:

    • Weekly status reports go to that list around Wednesday of each week and are archived on the wiki.
  • Please use our shiny tracking bugs to track your work:
