Overview

Fennec is a new version of Firefox redesigned to work on small devices (such as a smartphone or pda). There are a lot of differences between Fennec and Firefox, so it is important for us to spent the extra time testing.

The Fennec specific testday is geared for testing different aspects of Fennec. Our first testday is June 26 and focused on web compatibility. Look forward to future testdays where we explore different features and device integration.

June 26, 2009

We are focusing on Fennec web compatibility which means you can help us out by just browsing the web! Hit your favorite sites (banking, email, social networking, news, blogs) and let us know what does and does not work.

How to use the UI

Since Fennec is designed for touch screen PDA devices, we found it can be confusing figuring things out. Everything is a tap, and our interface takes advantage of sliding and dragging (what we call panning).

  • tabs- click in the display window and drag to the right
  • options (add-ons, downloads, preferences)- click in the display window and drag to the left, then click the gears icon at the bottom
  • url bar- displayed whenever you pan to the tab strip or pan the page all the way to the top
  • awesome bar- view the url bar and start typing, single click on an entry to view it
  • panning- once the page has loaded you can drag the page up and down. Sometimes a page will be able to pan left and right as well.
  • zoom- double tap to zoom in/out. Once zoomed in you can pan
