Summary: This presentation is very similar to the one I gave in MozCamp Warsaw.
This presentation tells the story of platforms -- from shipping containers and radios to the IBM mainframe to Microsoft Windows, Google and Apple, and summarizes the common strategies that all platform owners try to employ in order to maximize their profit and longevity. We then move into a discussion of the Open Web, its similarities and differences to these platforms and thus its importance to the world at large. It will conclude with a short summary of points that attendees can use when explaining the importance of Mozilla to others.
How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals: This presentation gives attendees a good "framework" for understanding the issues that Mozilla is trying to address and of their importance, giving them information useful in recruiting new contributors.
Expected Outcome or Deliverable: Attendees should feel well-equipped to present a compelling argument to potential new contributors as to the value of Mozilla's cause.
Desired Audience Type or Skill-set: Anyone -- general audience.
Equipment Needs (Video projector already included): Just a video projector.
