How to get involved

Volunteering for Mozilla Festival 2019 is an application process. While not a competitive process, we will be primarily considering the following in each application: Any history of not complying with Mozilla’s Community Participation Guidelines The capacity for volunteers on each day. We determine numbers on how many volunteers we need for each day, and we will look to ensure we stay within a margin of this number.

You can apply for Mozilla Festival’s Volunteer Program using:

It is a fun event held at a wonderful, open and inspiring venue, Ravensbourne. Ravensbourne is located in Greenwich Peninsula opposite the O2 Arena.

MozFest House

Starting in 2017, we prefixed Mozilla Festival with a week-long space, MozFest House. MozFest House is a central London venue that extends MozFest into a week-long festival. MozFest House features films, workshops, conferences, and talks, all focusing on Internet health and showcasing the diversity of the Mozilla network. The venue also features a free co-working space.

What to Expect as a Volunteer

What will I do?

Volunteers are integral to the Festival, and we ask Volunteers to help with a number of roles. Please, the link below for more information. We are also always interested if you have any specific skills you can bring to the Festival. Please email volunteer@mozillafestival.org if you have anything in mind.

Will I be fed?

All volunteers are provided lunch while working at the event. If you work late over the weekend we will cover dinner too. There is awesome coffee on site and snacks available to keep the energy levels up for all those stairs. We will have a party on Saturday night with food and drink catered for and karaoke!! All food intolerances will be covered. Those volunteering late in the venue set up on the Friday night and the Sunday night will receive dinner and snacks. MozFest House volunteers will be regularly fed through their shifts.

Code of Conduct

By participating in MozFest 2019, you are agreeing to respect Mozilla community participation guidelines. These guidelines cover our behaviour as participants, facilitators, wranglers, staff, volunteers, vendors, and anyone else involved in making MozFest possible.

How to treat each other:

Be respectful and value each other’s ideas, styles and viewpoints. Be direct but professional; we cannot withhold hard truths. Be inclusive and help new perspectives be heard. Appreciate and accommodate our many cultural practices, attitudes and beliefs. Be open to learning from others. Lead by example and match your actions with your words.

The following will not be tolerated at MozFest: violence and threats of violence; personal attacks; derogatory language; unwelcome sexual attention or physical contact; disruptive behaviour; influencing unacceptable behaviour.

If you don't respect these guidelines you understand that you will be asked to leave the venue.

Read the participation guidelines in full here.

Timings

How many hours will I be asked to do as a volunteer?

You need to volunteer for a minimum of four hours over the weekend, then you can go explore the festival. If you can help out for more time then that would be really appreciated.

Can volunteers attend sessions?

For 2019, we are trialing a coordinated shifting system which will give volunteers more freedom on the sessions they choose. Read more above.

FAQs

Will my travel to the festival be covered?

Unfortunately, Mozilla is unable to cover travel or accommodation to the festival over the weekend.

Do I have to wear the Volunteer t-shirt?

If you are "on duty" then yes, the t-shirt is your "ask me questions, I know everything" banner.

Are there age restrictions on volunteers?

As a rule, volunteers less than 16-years of age (at the time of volunteering) will need to be accompanied, at all times, by a parent or legal guardian - we would not normally accept anyone less than 8-years of age. There is no upper age limit.
