Items for dicussion

  • Main Foundation text
    • Causes is the space where we explain what we do. The Foundation home page is a space to explain who we are and how we do what we do.
    • Activities could either be rolled into the space (or depending on the page design and how much effort we want to put into explaining our activities, link out to individual pages, eg. Grants.
    • Main section of this page would be a great place to have a video or link to a video about the history of the Mozilla Foundation (why we're here, what we do) or eventually the Mozilla timeline
  • Move the donation ask above the fold
  • Dropping the FriendFeed as an engagement tool
  • Add some imagery - add a cartoon dino to break up the text until video elements can be added
    • Suggest an invitation to contact a mailing list (Contribute? perhaps a foundation specific one?)
    • Suggest an invitation to join the drumbeat discussion group
    • Add a section Spread the word about Mozilla: Could link to the recently developed banners, the Mozilla persona (and hopefully some new mozilla personas), and a Mozilla presence on several social networks (Marketing has already secured us the Mozilla YouTube channel).

The Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes openness, innovation and participation on the Internet*. Mozilla is best known for the Firefox browser, but we advance our mission through other software projects, grants and engagement efforts such as Mozilla Drumbeat.

Although thousands of people are part of Mozilla, the Mozilla Foundation itself is a small team of people. We provide core services to the Mozilla community and promote the values of an open Internet to the broader world.

If you're interested in supporting our efforts, please consider making a donation and getting involved with the Mozilla community.

* This wording will change as the Causes content evolves.

Note: donate promo will also be included on the right side of the page

The Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit, public benefit organization that sponsors the Mozilla project. We are helping you make the Internet a place that is open, trustworthy, innovative, generative, international and personalized. We do this by supporting the community of Mozilla contributors and by assisting others who are building technologies that benefit users around the world.

The Mozilla Foundation is many things. We are the main legal entity for coordinating the Mozilla mission of making the internet better. Under this umbrella are projects like Firefox, Thunderbird, Raindrop and Mozilla Drumbeat. We are a small team of people who provide core services to the Mozilla community. We also provide legal, licensing, fundraising and other help to the Mozilla project and to several Mozilla community projects like Bugzilla, SeaMonkey and Camino.

If you're interested in who we are, what we do or would like to get involved please have a look around. You can also donate to Mozilla and help us make the Internet you want.

Notes from Foundation staff meeting about Foundation main page

  • In the chance that someone comes here as the first place that they come
  • people coming here for the big picture and for those legal thingys
  • above the fold to be inspirational and below to be functional
  • what are we trying to functionally describe and how much does it overlap with organization
  • put drumbeat in as an example alongside Firefox
  • The Foundation is the main legal entity to coordinating making the internet better. Under this umbrella are things like Firefox and Drumbeat
  • One Mozilla decision – dumbeat and grants/activities doesn't belong there
  • The Foundation is many things. Here are the different things that it is– holds all the organizational assessments, legal, organizational home to other projects, it is also a small team of people who provide core services to the Mozilla through programs like grants and drumbeat
  • Functionally – leading people the legal/policy and organizational bits
  • Chelsea to take another spin with the text. Will share with the larger group.
