Stage 1: Definition

1. Feature overview

For Mac:

  • There are a couple of issues that are specific to Mac users:
    • User A (who is admin) installs Firefox and then receives an update, User A can update using admin authentication with no issues. User B on the same machine with admin rights also uses Firefox, and when an update is available User B is unable to update due to the directory location and ownership rights of Firefox.app.
    • With 10.6 (Snow Leopard) when you drag an application into the /Applications/ folder in Finder, it now automatically chowns it to root instead of to the user who put it there. This effectively disables Software Update on any new install on 10.6.
