**An alternate way is having a small "v" arrow next to magnifying glass icon. clicking this arrow will popup a non-volatile menu listing the available search engines. user then can simply left click on the names and a new tab  (with search results) will open for each one of them. there should be a "x" icon or close (menu item) to close the menu.
