From MozillaWiki
- Community Brainstorm notes Thurs Jul 22, 2010
- Attendees
- Matt Evans
- Marcia Knous
- Tomcat
- Historically hired people from the community but never replaced them
- Marcia: interested in events that bring in new people
- expose new people to Mozilla
- teach them how to get involved
- groom people to be ambassadors
- for their region
- to carry the torch for us (Mozilla and Mozilla QA)
- Should speak the local language
- Similar to drumbeat project
- DB is more about open web
- but somewhat same objective
- can we leverage DB and open web for QA?
- Tomcat
- Big community with big market share
- Make it easy
- Make it clear
- Clarify what we need
- Needs to have meaningful value to volunteers
- Why do people volunteer their time and effort?
- Stories about why Tomcat got involved with the project (mozilla)
- fascinated and wanted to learn how:
- we did open source project management
- team communication (remote)
- how we did testing
- L10N Teams
- rather isolated
- good example is the Balkans
- meetups occur
- Milosh
- Macedonia
- Asked would you want to test?
- yes, but don't know how
- Need L10N leverage
- dark_skeleton is from the polish community
- L10N as outpost and forward troops
- will be able to advertise for us
- specific on how to improve L10N testing
- L10N testing is a very uncoordinated process
- Currently no QA communication channel to localizer community
- No encouragement to do QA testing
- Don't know what they test
- TomCat: L10N and QA Localization contact representative
- Tomcat is suited to be a QA contact for L10N
- He knows the L10N teams and they know him
- Same timezone for Europe
- Nightly testers
- Do testing on their own
- Need to coordinate more
- Need guide them on what to test
- Inform them on what landed in the build
- Can this be information on QMO?
- Mostly only do normal browsing
- beta feedback will miss some things therefore early testing of landed features will find bugs early and ultimately more bugs will be found.
- Need to have an early notification system for landed features
- Notes from Tomcat, Thurs Jul 15
- Proposal for Localizer QA Representative
- Proposal for increase testing participation from Nightly/Alpha users
- Obejectives
- More testing coverage
- Community participation
- Goodwill towards community
- Community goodwill
- feedback from localizers
- specific to localized versions of FF
- Advertise new FF features to localizsers
- QA testing of new features
- Manual testing
- Automated testing via Henrick's automated mozmill extension and localized build support
- Increased community communications
- Tie in with DrumBeat? Maybe a stretch
- Need to have a QA newsletter!
- What's the design
- Send to users via email
- Need a mailing list interface to QMO
- Mozillazine entry with changelog
- Need to define and specify Tomcat's world tour....
