== WHAT==
Here's a production and testing process for a "Web Literacy Basics I" module. The first module is a foundation. We will add more modules as we go - e.g. Basics II and Basics III.
Mozilla's pedagogy is learning through making and doing, so all of the sessions will be production-focused.
===Module===
* ~3 sessions
* instruction and inspiration for mentors
* discussion and troubleshooting forum for mentors
* final reflection / capstone for learners and mentors
* tentative credentialing / certificate of completion for learners and mentors
===Sessions===
* ~45 mins in length
* ~2 activities per session
* pre-post questionnaire to measure effectiveness
* Cover select competencies of the Web Literacy Map
* modeled implementation showing how to adapt and use in a local context
* extra (extension) activities to go deeper
===Activities===
* Resources for learners to be able to self-start
* Instructions for mentors
==HOW==
We'll need two teams: i) curriculum production and ii) curriculum testers working in two-week cycles ("heartbeats") to produce and test each of the 3 sessions. Teams are a mix of staffers (see below) and community co-designers.
Per heartbeat:
=== Curriculum Producers===
* Each producer writes a quick arc for the session. Includes 2 activities and introductions. Answers "How would you teach this competency in 45min?"
* Discuss and synthesize arcs into one session ready for testing.
* Package session in a simple format with light instructions and clear learning objectives. (optional) Link to alternative arcs.
* Write a pre/post questionnaire.
* Prep for next sessions
* Monitor and guide testers.
=== Curriculum Testers===
* Identify a learning audience to test first session.
* Do activity first on your own and complete pre/post questionnaire.
* Teach the activity to learners. Learners and mentors complete pre/post questionnaire.
* Publish a reflection for learners and mentors on the activities for the curriculum producers.
* Prep for next session.
Testers will conclude with a final reflection or capstone that show how the curriculum was modified and contextualized. The "best of" remixes will be summarized and repackaged as part of the overall module and featured in Community Literacies blog.
==WHERE==
===Hosting and Testing Curriculum===
For testing purposes, we will use the Mozilla wiki. Why? Because it's rough and easy to edit.
* Example:Testing hub: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mozparty/Betatest
* Curriculum: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Webmakers/events/kitchen_table
===Discussion, Reflection and Metrics===
* People will reflect and discuss the process in Discourse.
* The pre/post questionnaires will be completed using Google Forms for easy data aggregation.
===Experimentation===
In parallel, we will experiment with putting the content on Github and developing a user-friendly front-end on Github pages. We will log our experiences in forking and editing via Github. But this is not our primary service for Q1 testing.
==TIMELINE==
* Now - Jan 21: Produce Session 1
* Jan 21 - Feb 4: Test Session 1. Produce Session 2.
* Feb 4 - Feb 18: Test Session 2. Produce Session 3.
* Feb 18 - Mar 4: Test Session 3. Produce final reflection.
* Mar 4 - Mar 18: Test final reflection.
==GOAL==
By Mar 18: Completed & tested Web Literacy Basics I module in 20+ locales. Ready for next iteration to test in more locales.
