<b>It's basically a big "show and tell" session or demo party</b>. Participants wander, sip cocktails, chat with exhibitors, and get their hands dirty on cool projects. It's casual, fun, and hands-on.
The <strong>Mozilla Science Fair</strong> will help kick off this year's <strong>[http://dml2012.dmlcentral.net/ Digital Media and Learning 2012]</strong> conference at the [http://www.parc55hotel.com/ Parc55 Hotel] in San Francisco. It's interactive, fun and totally hands-on -- like a big "show and tell" session or demo party. Participants wander, sip cocktails, chat with exhibitors, and get their hands dirty on cool projects ranging from research, learning models and web projects to software, experiments, and anything at the cutting edge of learning and digital media.
 
Exhibitors set up a simple "show and tell" station at a table, then chat and show off their project -- whether it's research, learning models, web projects, software, experiments, etc. Participants circulate and mingle, pausing at tables to chat, have a look, and see what's on offer.

What is the DML Science Fair?

The Mozilla Science Fair will help kick off this year's Digital Media and Learning 2012 conference at the Parc55 Hotel in San Francisco. It's interactive, fun and totally hands-on -- like a big "show and tell" session or demo party. Participants wander, sip cocktails, chat with exhibitors, and get their hands dirty on cool projects ranging from research, learning models and web projects to software, experiments, and anything at the cutting edge of learning and digital media.

Bay Area Video Coalition

Youth from BAVC's Factory filmmaking program collaborated with the Mozilla Foundation and ZeroDivide to explore the possibilities of web-native filmmaking: to help the internet find its own storytelling voice. They asked the question, “What would a story made FOR the internet look and sound like? And how would it be told?” Twelve youth in The Factory beta-tested Mozilla’s “Popcorn Maker”, a web-native filmmaking software devised in Mozilla’s Web Made Movies innovation lab, by integrating the software into the program’s summer-based Community Filmmaking Partnerships (“CFPs”– short films that The Factory makes for/about East Bay non-profits). In doing so, The Factory filmmakers got a taste of cutting edge storytelling technologies, while Mozilla got the best kind of beta testers for their software: limber-minded, net-savvy teenagers.

Motion Math Motion Math makes fun learning games that let kids play with numbers. Touchscreen interfaces and mobile device sensors allow for range of new interactions that we can leverage for learning. Motion Math has made three popular iPad games that connect the physical to the symbolic, teaching math in innovative ways never before possible: 1) the first learning game to use the accelerometer (also the first iPad educational app studied in a rigorous efficacy study), 2) the most interactive number line of all time, which employs the pinch gesture for zooming between different orders of magnitude, 3) an addition game with instant touchscreen addition. Figment is a free online community for teens and young adults to create, discover, and share new reading and writing--from sonnets to screenplays to personal essays. In addition to giving emerging writers a place to publish and share their work, Figment also offers them the chance to interact with professional writers through author-judged writing contests, Q-and-A’s, and other original programming. Through our private Figment Groups, educators can create free virtual writers’ workshops,students can create and revise writings in the safe space of a closed group, sharing their works-in-progress, as well as commenting and reviewing, only with other members and their teacher, before publishing to the entire authentic audience of the Figment community.
