Strawman Webmaker Plan for 2013
OR "Here is Where We Want to be in a Year"
1. Webmaker is a "complete offering", defined as:
- Tools oriented towards making + learning
- Improved + unified IA/UX/UI/branding
- Tools that support javascript (Thimble?)
- Goggles (or goggles elements) integration in Thimble and Popcorn
- Webmaker badges - created by Mozilla + others
- User accounts w/ dashboard/gallery/sharing
- Meaningful volunteer contribution teams
- Projects - more, more compelling, more frequently released, more authors
2. Top tier user experience for making flowing seamlessly into contribution
- Systems in place for scale: User-creation gallery w/ sharing, project submission infrastructure, l10n back-end and peer support
- Reposition our core events as collaborative maker/instructor/contributor events, leaving people to run smaller peer learning and live support events on their own.
3. Solve peer support
- Review models and define strategy
- Build/Buy infrastructure/platform (e.g., Stack Exchange, Army of Awesome)
- Robust offering for assessment with badges, assessment, mentoring
4. Broader reach - 10x users and contributors
- Uplevel self-directed making with active peer support in the product so people can find their way into making at webmaker.org. This is a major use case we will build for throughout the product.
- Consistent consumer marketing and campaigns
- Maximize use of Fx channels
