What build/release should I test?

Thunderbird 2 Release Candidate Builds:

Please use the latest rc builds available from:

l10n RC builds should be available before Friday's test event.

What needs to be tested?

The easiest thing to do...

  • Use it to access your e-mail for the day. Send/receive, etc.
  • Vista Testers: Can you reproduce Bug 375922 with the Japanese build or any other locale?
  • We took a late fix to address a problem where clicking on an article in a newsgroup wouldn't load the article (Bug 365016). Test newsgroups: reading, subscribing, etc.
  • Create some custom tags. Tag messages. Create a saved search to search for these tagged messages.
  • Try the message navigation feature. Read some messages, read some more messages in another folder. Test the back and forward toolbar buttons.
  • Vista testers who have previously installed 1.5.0.x, see if you can verify Bug 373403
  • l10n testers: create a saved search with non ascii characters in the folder name. Make sure the saved search is preserved across sessions.
  • Thunderbird 2 includes a new hosted start page which has been translated into many languages. Try an l10n build and verify that the links in the start page work correctly.
  • We recently landed Vista support for Thunderbird. If you have access to Vista, try some of the tests suggested: here. If you have time, run the Thunderbird Windows Vista tests on Litmus.
  • On Windows and Linux, the new mail alert notification is now clickable. You should be able to click on messages in the alert and they should load in an existing 3-pane or if no 3-pane is open, open a new 3-pane window.
  • Help test the new account wizard ISP work.
    • verify that en-GB and de both show googlemail instead of gmail in the account wizard. Bonus points to verify that you are able to access your gmail account.
    • Verify that en-US and other locales show gmail in the account wizard and for one of these locales, verify that you are able to access your gmail account.
    • Try installing say an en-GB build on top of an en-GB beta 2 build. Verify that you no longer see gmail in the account wizard. This helps test that we properly removed the old gmail.rdf file for en-GB and de.
    • Make sure on the mac that dotmac still shows up.
    • Make sure on unix that movemail still shows up.
    • Bonus points, look in the installation directory for a locale after installing and verify that: <path to exe>\isps\AB_CD contains either gmail.rdf or googlemail.rdf.

If you want to do more...

  • Go to Litmus, our test tracking system.
    • Try running a smoketest on any of the builds.
    • Try running through any number of Basic Functional Tests (BFTs)

If you discover a bug or regression that you feel is critical, please let us know on the #testday IRC channel ASAP!

Where do I find Litmus?

  • Go to Litmus
  • log in and then select run tests
  • You can do a smoketest or a Basic Functional Test, it is entirely up to you!
  • Talk to a moderator if you need help.
  • Please make sure to choose the correct platform when you start your run.

Who will be moderating the #testday channel?

How do I file bugs?

First of all, let one of the moderators know so they can check if it is already a known problem. Then they can guide you to either provide more details, update an existing bug or file a new bug. If filing a new bug, please do a quick check to see if the bug already exists. This can easily be done by searching for the error message, window name, or some over identifing feature of the bug.

How do I send feedback?

Please use the [1] to send feedback about how the testday went, any overall thoughts about the latest release, and roll up of issues found and bugs filed. We really appreciate your help today and your feedback is very valuable.
