What:
- Migrate all users from Sync 1.1 to 1.5.
- Shut down Sync 1.1 hardware in Phoenix datacenter.
When:
- Migration begins: 2015-04.
- Internal announcement, Mon 2015-07-13.
- External announcement/email, Mon 2015-07-27.
- Sync 1.1 servers shut down, Mon 2015-09-28.
Why:
- Sync 1.5 is integrated with Firefox Accounts; it helps drive our Accounts strategy.
- Improvements to Sync coming; work on one unified codebase.
- Ops needs to get out of the Phoenix datacenter; it costs us a bunch of money.
