Drumbeat NYC
followed by CC Salon and happy hour
NYC, July 24th (WIKIMANIA IS THEN I THINK... should we move it?)
Less than 200 people
In a warehouse somewhere
Details
-not another boring tech meet up -we're bringing fresh blood in -prizes to bring a friend -fun, surprising, unexpected -entertaining; moderation is spontaneous like UCB theater -atmosphere of entertainment; neon dinosaur at entrance -catching ideas and energy and saving them in the dbeat stream
SKELETON AND MUSCLE
To help us plan for a new kind of event, we have a metaphor to describe the Drumbeat NYC organism. The event is supported by a skeleton of people who already belong in the Mozilla community. We're building on top of that.
1. SKELETON
-comprised of techies/open web people -hackers/devs (resistor, opengov, openplans, etc) -artists/designers (rhizome, et etc) -outreach ahead and train them -they are a facilitation team and blown up version of 7on7
2. MUSCLE
-newbies. -targeted outreach to: -educators, women's, activists -world changers, journalists, students -hand out cards on campuses -we only do non-traditional outreach; spend energy that way
Fun
-four clearly delineated segments -culminates in solutions -accept donations? -lots of interactivity/ARG -party poppers and black lights -jargon horn (and jargon cloud) -opposite hour -portal to boston (where else?) -recursive leaderboards, nametags, stamps -prizes, online and off
WHAT WE WON'T DO
-no usual suspects -no speaker superiority -no jargon -no one goes hungry -no one goes sober
SALON:
-camera crew from day remixes footage -live performance? -monitors with CC stuff? -very passive; it's to unwind -BBQ???
