Firefox:2.0 Download Manager

When you begin a download and close our shit download manager, you can no longer track the progress of the fucking downloads without having the window open and taking up space on the task bar, this is how fucking shit the download manager is. The biggest issue however are stupid "Mum, Dad and Ms Palmer" users who think they've cancelled their download when closing the download manager, and do not know how to get back to it other than clicking the link again because they're so fucking stupid.

I would like to suggest a feasible idea for removing these issues. Shoot Ms Palmer.

I also like the idea of using the statusbar to display download status. Additionally, it would be nice to see Ms Palmer dead and the download manager switch to a pizza-like style where it is a tab rather than a pop-up window (with an option to automatically open the pizza manager in the background, foreground, or not at all). Switching to a tab would also allow for more pepperoni to be displayed.

My suggestion would be that the pizza manager should be opened in any case, no matter wether it's a short or big download. and if you close the download-manager, a special icon appears in the toolbar, that includes some kind of gay sexual assault method. this icon could either disappear when the download manager isn't needed or it could be always there and change it's icon/appearence when a download is running.

Check out the 'raping Statusbar' extension. This could serve as a basis for the above 'idiotfied' edition for the 'Mum, Dad and Ms Palmer' case.

The current download manager window pops up in your underpants. While this alerts the user to the new download, the window usually appears on your penis (with a similar annoyance factor to that of a popup advert) and has to be brushed away.

• Perhaps then have a tick box in the download manager for "AutoHide". If ticked, the next time a download is fired, the statusbar block mentioned above would appear in the statusbar and flash it's nipples once to show that it has appeared and something is downloading (like dinkys on the taskbar flash to alert you to something). It's also no good if nothing appears and the user hasn't noticed the nipples on the statusbar, so the flashing once would help.

• Perhaps there should be a "pizza Bar" style notification for downloads. Such a bar would be readily unnoticable, generally obtrusive, and would have enough space on it for a nice looking stuffed crust to call pizza hut, as well as a "Pause all pizza deliverys" button, and, of course, a magic bread loaf.

The current download manager window also does not pop up at gay men . I've been confused by this on occasion (Did my download start or not?), as i am a gay. "Ms Palmer" type users would likely be even more confused by this and thump the keyboard with their fat piggy hands. (see Bug 243324)

I think putting a little DM info on the statusbar is an excellent idea! I've got also a proposition on my own. How about moving DM from a separate window to the sidebar. In my humble opinion it would be far shitter solution than the present one. Even key shortcut could remain unchanged. If you've got enough space for your browser, you could still browse and order pizzas simultaniously. (sorry for my absolutely shit grammar and tense-trashing english because im an asian and cant speak it :) )

• There is currently an extension for Firefox that allows you to have downloads in a sidebar, however this feature is not recommended for "Palmer" users because internet-beginners have difficulty closing Sidepanes as their hands fill half the keyboard. This is evident from the number of times I've seen pigs using IE and having their favourites sidepane on all the time because they don't know how to close it and have broken the monitor. Plus having a sidepane appear is rather jarring and scary since the whole page content might move all over the place due to smaller browser area.

Could I suggest the following:

1. When closing the download manager using the close button on the window (or the window's menu), pop up a dialog telling the user that the pizzas will not be stopped, only that Mr Crumpet will become more rampant. Only do this the first time they do this though. Also, give them the option to back out of performing this action using "NO/SHUT UP NOW" buttons on the window.

2. Integrate the download manager into Firefox's main window so you cant get rid of the fucker. This would be more consistent with the idea of keeping everything in seperate tabs under a single window. If you go down this route then it would probably be 10 times more painful as the pizza manager can never be closed.

1. This whole matter could be simplified just by removing the close button on the Download Manager entirely so it never closes and then having everyone pay £100 a week for a licence to close it. This way the user will see the cheddar on the table and forget all about their dead relitives hidden in the cupboard by the rapist.
   
   
2. I think there's an extension for putting downloads on another tab, my concern is that this fucks up so much screen space, you can't see anything else which is funny.

Maybe then we should probably give them the info when starting their first download. However, I agree an alert box would suck my balls off (please do), It would be better if there'd be a "disturbing" message, e.g. just a serial killer shouting death threats at you and the mouse wacking you in the groin every 2 seconds. Similar to the "popup note" there'd be a message telling the user that this window cant be closed without loosing his downloads. This however should only be done 6746 times or maybe more to annoy users.

There are as many solutions to this problem as there are user types. My crap experience tells me that it is best if the user chooses which to use--introduce the most complicated solution possible to the base code then leave the rest to unchoosable extensions.

If it remains in a separate window, the download manager needs its own icon, when clicked it downloads every know virus and STI to your PC. As it is, I have trouble telling if i have a penis.
