We need to have the Demo Studio Challenges page up by June 1, 2010, so this is going to be a quick release with a lot of new design work. Given the static nature of most of the new content, hopefully we will be able to get MDN 0.9.5 out on time.

Features

Mstone Component Feature Rank Owner Status
0.9.5 Infrastructure Code Repository Transition P1 lcrouch done
0.9.5 Infrastructure MindTouch 2010 Upgrade P2 lcrouch pending IT push
0.9.5 Demo Studio Demo Studio redesign + challenges page(s) P1 lorchard finishing designs
0.9.5 Engagement Simple MDN affiliate/button page P2 lorchard ?

(P1) Code Repository Transition

Summary:

  • We need to switch hudson, staging, and production from the mdn repository to the kuma repository on the mdn branch. Maintaining two repositories is too much overhead.

Goals:

  • Live on a single django code-base

(P2) MindTouch 2010 Upgrade

Summary:

  • Want to upgrade MindTouch to 2010.

Goals:

  • gain some bug fixes and enhancements

(P1) Demo Studio redesign and challenge page(s)

Summary:

  • The Web o Wonder site is being shutdown at the end of June, so we need to make the Demo Studio section of MDN a bit more polished and press/media friendly. As a part of this redesign, we also need to get a couple of pages for the upcoming Demo Studio Challenges that we plan to do monthly to encourage more demo contributions.

Goals:

  • Freshen up the Demo Studio homepage with more graphics and better layout
    • New Demo Studio title/graphic + space for Challenge promos
    • No new features/functional changes required
  • Add a main Challenge page with basic info and challenge details
  • Create supporting Challenge pages template (for terms, faq, judges, etc)
  • Creative assets for promoting the Challenge

(P2) Simple MDN affiliates/button page

Summary:

  • As part of our SEO strategy, we want to create affiliate buttons that will allow others to promote MDN on their websites and blogs. We have the creative assets ready, but need to convert them to Web-friendly buttons and setup a way to make the button/snippet creation as easy as possible.

Goals:

  • Create affiliate button selector based on:
    • Topic: Web, Demos, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
    • Color: Red, Orange, Gray
    • Style: Toolbox, Hotrod, etc
  • Generate tracking snippet that users can put on their blogs/sites

(P2) Member/developer profile system

Summary:

  • As we focus on building out a stronger community of developers, we need to create a space for them to share more about themselves and help them find each other. With active docs contributors and demo authors joining MDN, it is important to build out more robust developer profile dashboards for them. This is the first step towards that goal.

Goals:

  • Create a django based profile dashboard to members
    • Personal info they wish to share with the community
    • Docs feed (docs watched, edited, etc)
    • Demos feed (submitted, liked, shared, etc)
  • Link to new profile page from Demo Studio (and any other places that make sense)
