Schedule & Progress on Upcoming Releases

Firefox Desktop

Release (13, 10esr)

• Conversations with Adobe about Flash 11.3 instability are ongoing

Beta (14)

• FF14.0.1 Sign-offs occurred this morning, got the all clear
• FF14 beta 12 (our last planned beta) is going out to our test audience today
• FF14.0.1 build 1 will go to build before the end of the week, and will be released on Tuesday 7/17

Firefox Mobile

Web Compatibility

• Last week's mobile Web compatibility summary
• arewecompatibleyet.com report contains the latest on our top site investigation.
• mozilla.compatibility list set up for discussion.
• A-Team proposal for automated tool to detect UA sniffing and CSS property usage issues and generate reports. Now in final review. Please comment by EOD Friday, July 13.

Add-on SDK

Release (1.8 -> Firefox 13, 14)

• released 1.8.1 yesterday to fix a regression, please see the blog post [for more details https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2012/07/10/announcing-add-on-sdk-1-8-1/].
• contributor and former Jetpack Ambassador Erik Vold has joined the team and started on Monday in MV.

Stabilization (1.9 -> Firefox 14, 15)

• Next release scheduled for 7 August, 2012

Development (1.10 -> Firefox 15, 16)

• Merge to Stabilization scheduled for 7 August, 2012

Other notes:

• we're discussing options for landing the javascript packager on master while ensuring that Builder continues to work.
• we're working on an outreach plan to re-packing as many AMO-hosted add-ons as possible

Apps

• Firefox Desktop 15 (Aurora)
  • Landed: Support of native installation and and chromeless launch of apps for Win and Mac OS
  • Will be backed out for FF15 Beta audience - need a bug # for this

• Firefox Desktop 16 (Nightly)
  • Fit and polish for native install and launch. Down to 4 blockers!!! See here for more info on work in desktop WebRT. WOOT!

• Firefox Mobile 16 (Nightly) - in progress
  • Features: Native Install and chromeless window launch
  • Proposed marketplace bundling with Fennec is an open issue. See bug 738545

Feedback Summary

Desktop

Flash continues to be our biggest issue. We are working with the community to mitigate the impact, but it is slow going and our reach is limited.

• New users willing to help with SPDY issue.
• Google/Gmail characters - Info sent.
• Can't find server: Seems to be spam - http://input.mozilla.org/en-US/?q=server&product=firefox&version=13.0.1&date_start=2012-07-03&page=1
• Babylon toolbar is back, complaints up 3x (after having dropped down for a while) over the last 2 weeks.

Market Insights

Desktop / Platform

Google

• Google now tells all visitors to Blogger.com that use Opera that the browser "is no longer supported … some parts will not work
• Chrome now features an event-driven system for extension developers, that allows extensions to by driven by browser events, spending the rest of the time deallocated from memory
• Google more formally presented the getUserMedia and Gamepad APIs, which are now in the Beta versions of Chrome
• Google will apparently pay a $22.5m penalty to the US government for "surreptitious bypassing of the privacy settings of millions of Apple Safari users"
• Chrome now no longer supports Mac OSX 10.5
• In marketing news, Google is now distributing free CDs of Chrome in US Best Buy stores and Lenovo apparently bundles Chrome with some of its notebooks

Microsoft

• Microsoft produced a detailed summary of how IE10 will support the latest candidate recommendation for CSS Gradients
• Microsoft patched 16 vulnerabilities, including one in Windows that's been exploited for weeks and two in IE9 in the first-in-years back-to-back browser update.
• Microsoft has increased their Internet Explorer development resources to the point that they can [http://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2012/07/10/gadgets-certificate-housekeeping-and-the-july-2012-bulletins.aspx now "be able to release an update during any month instead of on our previous, bi-monthly cadence."

Opera

• Opera's dev builds now support SPDY
• … they also support a number of -webkit- prefixed CSS properties
• Opera also open-sourced RoboHydra, a "a web server designed to help you test any kind of HTTP-based client … mimicking any server behaviour needed to test your clients.

WebKit

• Partial support for the CSS Variables Standard landed in WebKit

Other

• The Torch Browser, a Chromium-based desktop browser with built-in social sharing and Bittorrent support, was launched.
• Bernard Robert Picher has made good progress on implementing the Adobe Flash API in Google's Dart programming language.
