How are you currently involved with the community?: Last year at MozCamp EU, Justin Dow and I had a session entitled "How can Mozilla IT be your IT". After its success, Mozilla IT started to help communities by providing them virtual private servers (VPS). We realized that most of the community members need guidance setting up those servers, securing them and running the services. I wrote a blog post in June [1], addressing those concerns and providing insights to the community on how Mozilla IT manages the servers. Brian Hourigan had a great contribution in writing this blog post. I am also involved in the Romanian community [2], being responsible of the system that runs www.mozilla.ro.

Talk Length (please choose between 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes): 60

Summary: 2/3 of the session will cover some topics from the blog post [1], in an open discussion with the auditorium. At the end we'll talk about new exciting ideas that will help communities run the web applications and other services, and open new doors to engaging contributors in IT.

How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals (https://wiki.mozilla.org/MozCampEU2012/Tracks): This is a great follow-up after last year's MozCamp IT's session, and it is a way to hear directly from the communities how we did this past year with the tools we provided and how we can do better.

Expected Outcome or Deliverable: Instilling systems administration best practices, sharing experiences and ideas with community sysadmins, finding out how can we help more.

Desired Audience Type or Skill-set: preferably people who are in charge maintaining community servers, but anyone who is curious about systems security and what IT does "behind the scenes".
