Project Link Validation Stage (Julie/Preeti) On Target

Product

  • Vision for Project Link shared across the Link team & stakeholders
  • Exploration of potential partnerships has started to complement our areas of focus for Link
  • Analysis and research on competitive products in smart home space is continuing
  • Continued brainstorming on user segment focus areas and differentiators
  • Initial discussions with the Vaani team on how best to to leverage their framework into Link for voice support

Research

  • Analysis from last week's research sessions is wrapping up

Engineering

  • Last bits of Motion Sensor, Hue Lights, and Lock adapter and integration with taxonomy and rules engine for this prototype phase
  • Integration of Recipes UI with taxonomy API
  • Focus on getting two pilot scenarios working end-to-end by mid April
  • Technical discussions with Vaani team had begun to see how we can enable voice interactions for Link.
  • Test:
    • Unit Test coverage for Thinkerbell module (IFTTT Rules), and unit test support via Karma for the web app and got the basic workings landed
    • Automated Integration tests in progress
    • Daily Smoke tests are up and running. Currently manual, with automation next focus
  • Documentation
    • Organizing effort to pull in API docs and technical docs to the Project Link wiki. The Project Link wiki now has links to the technical overview presentations, taxonomy, test docs etc.

Participation

  • Meeting scheduled on 4/7 for community participation at the London workweek for Project Link.

  • During last week all team members are conducting the new Research plan via interviews to the targeted audiences: Babysitting age (12 to 15 years old) and independent elderly (aging in place).
  • This week in Portland:
    • Summarize Research findings
    • Choose 2 or 3 problem areas from the Research findings to focus on
    • Brainstorm solutions to these and/or our next research plan
Project Magnet Validation (Maria) On Target
  • During past weeks the team has works in a basic React Native code base that in order to build for both iOS and Android
  • low start due to this technical research and most of the team off
  • Official Kick off scheduled next week (4/13/2016)
  • Confirmed UX involvement in the project

  • Format for technical research has changed
  • Research engineers have met with each gated team and is moving forward with their research needs

    • Look into What N.A.S.A.’s program is doing to see if there is anything we can use from there?

Code Transition (Julie)

  • Smartphone Code Transition Wiki
  • Tests are running now running as expected again. Still many failures but mostly due to code changes, rather than infrastructure issues. Daily build test & sanity checks will now be done for the refactor. Currently checking to ensure it builds and boots, but as more functionality is available we will increase with daily smoketests.
  • Have hit a blocker: Bug 1261351 where gaia can't boot in mulet in debug mode
  • Builds now available for aries devices so community can flash their phones with the transition build.
  • Keyboard is now somewhat working
  • Developed list of requirements for the transition project to be complete by May/June B2G Transition Requirements (reflects meta bug Bug 1252143). Are currently estimating these bugs. Some may need breaking down further before they can be estimated, and need to identify anything that's missing

Transition to Volunteer Community (Valentin)

  • Community is invited to weekly B2G OS transition meetings
  • Documentation working group is taking off: support from MDN staff + doc sprint are in planning
