As we approach the Fall season, it's time for Back to School!  This year we have grown our Mozilla Campus Reps program to over 1000 students and feel the time is right for a more consumer focused Back to School campaign.   We'll continue to work with our Reps to promote Firefox and educate others about the Mozilla mission on the ground at campuses around the world, but this year we also want to get everyone involved...

Goals:

1. Create students page on mozilla.com (at mozilla.com/students?)
2. Develop campus affiliates program and hold a download contest for Back to School
3. Support 500 reps for campus events during Back to School
4. Recruit reps from top 25 US colleges and universities
   
5. Identify important countries or regions to support in 2009-10

Campus Affiliates Program (CAP)

While we have continued to improve our SFX affiliates program, it is intended for individual contributors and remains a tool for dedicated community members and those familiar with SFX.   We want to open up the program to groups and organizations that may want to participate without joining the SFX community.

There is a need for a better user experience in promoting Firefox as a team.  Colleges and universities provide a good test for redefining how the affiliates program works and improving it for groups and individuals.

Here is how this might work:

• Users can create a campus affiliate group (with a campus id and button)
  • Anyone can use this campus button to promote Firefox for their school
    • Referrals are tracked for each campus id
  • Button color should be customizable via color picker
    • Buttons need to be designed so they can be customized for school colors
  • Maintain a list of college/university affiliate groups
    • Any new entry should be checked against the list to avoid duplicates
    • If similar entries exist, we should suggest they use one of them before offering to create a new group
• Users can join a campus affiliate group and create a unique affiliate button for themselves (with group id + student id) for individual tracking
  • Referrals are tracked for each student id AND their campus id
