February 2010 - Developer Site Up
Objectives
- Developer web site launched, community testing and improving it
- Bootstrap projects clearly articulated on site
- Modest participation, people building core Drumbeat idea
Key milestones

FOSDEM - define Europe strategy, find bootstrap projects - Content ported from wiki to alpha site
- Alpha website launched (Feb 16?)
- Registration opens for first P2PU course
- Brett Gaylor starts work on WebMadeMovie
- Wikipedia video challenge designed and announced

Recruiting - interviews w/ Paris-based candidates
March 2010 - Projects and Events Fleshed Out
Objectives
- Really flesh out the bootstrap projects
- Modest number of project leads and participants (200?)
- Build to point that many more people can participate
- More features added to site using community developers
- Main needs will be auto project metrics and local event support
- Local event strategy is clear and well articulated
Key milestones
- First P2PU course actually starts running
- Wikipedia open video challenge launches (?)
- Announce and start shooting for Web Made Movie at SXSW
- Local events planned and advertised (up to summer)
- First version of Drumbeat local event kit complete
- Rio or Sao Paulo local events (March 19 + 21)
- First Drumbeat fundraising campaign, Universal Subtitles
- Open web challenge in Global Ignite Week (didn't really happen)
April 2010 - Make a Little Noise (+ events)
Objectives
- Quietly but aggressively push more participation to projects
- Use project leads, social networks and Care2 to drive this
- Bloggers start noticing Drumbeat, insider version of story
- Events start to bring more people into core community
Key milestones
- Paris based Drumbeat lead starts work, noise making in Europe
- Design challenge for privacy icon project (earlier?)
- Redesign of drumbeat.org front page / project pages complete (earlier?)
- First local event organizer training camp, Toronto, April 23+24
- P2PU alternative accreditation workshop (in Toronto?)
May 2010 - Make Tons of Noise
Objectives
- Full site launch (earlier?)
- Confident about projects and websites at this point
- Easy for large numbers of people to participate
- Major press and blogger push at this point
- Number of local events is growing
Note: we're probably doing a larger 'open web month' during May w/ CC and Wikipedia. This will help make the Drumbeat louder.
Key milestones
- Berlin local event, train people from other European cities (May 7+8)
- Public announcement of Drumbeat Festival location and date
- WebMadeMovie footage gathering and presence at ROFLCon
- Next Drumbeat fundraising campaign, probably WebMadeMovie
- P2PU Open Web Skills curriculum framework v0.1 released
June 2010 - Turn Buzz in Action
Objectives
- Active messaging to people who signed up for newsletters etc
- Get them actively participating in projects, spreading word
- Converting 'interested' people into active contributors
- Web site features stable, start localization (?)
- Press, blogging and events push continues
Key milestones
- Video and interactive HTML5 demo of WebMadeMovie released
- Probably do at Open Video Conference in NYC
- Events and organizer training camp in Brasil and India(?)
- Localization of site into three languages (?)
Q3 2010
- Local events running on their own (15+ cities?)
- Many new project ideas coming into pipeline (25/month?)
- Significant participation and donations to bootstrapped projects
- P2PU project well into phase 2 - more courses and clear curriculum
- WebMadeMovie getting significant public contributions
Q4 2010
- First global Drumbeat Festival held
- Significant press and blog coverage of Drumbeat as a whole
- Major update to site released, reflects learning from bootstrap phase
- At least three major new 'featured' projects via website pipeline
- ... funds and participation for these projects is significant
