Title:

Open Video in 60 Seconds

Project Headline:

Explain open video in 60 seconds starting... now!

Background:

The Open Video Alliance is a coalition of organizations and individuals devoted to creating and promoting free and open technologies, policies, and practices in online video.

Short Description

This is a simple contest anyone can enter. Just make a video spot explaining open video in 60 seconds or less. Then upload it anywhere and tell us the URL. Lots of cool prizes, including an expenses-paid trip to SXSW 2010!

How does this make the web better?:

Every day, more and more people use video to express themselves. Millions of people are using the moving image to tell stories, to persuade, to reveal. Now more than ever, it's important that basic video tools are open and available to everyone. The ability to create, manipulate, and share video is a prerequisite to participating in new media dialogues. Help us spread the word.

Participation Ask

There is one simple way to contribute:

  • Make a video. In 60 seconds or less, make a case for open video. Preferred format is OGG Theora, but we will accept almost anything. Upload your video to anywhere (archive.org, YouTube, Vimeo, blip.tv, or hosted at your own site, to name a few) and tell us the URL. You can make any case you like, in any form you like. Videos must be licensed CC-BY. Complete rules are here.

Tools

You and a camera. Upload your video anywhere (archive.org, YouTube, Vimeo, blip.tv, your own blog...)

A Clear Measurable Outcome

Generate a catalogue of great videos outlining the case for open video.

Audience

Anyone: a film-maker, journalist, video remixer, a citizen or someone with a camera and something to say.
