  • Session format: Fireside Chat

Description

Webmakers - what do you wish you had experienced and learned when you were in elementary, middle and high school? What advice would you give teachers to prepare youth to be proficient in the digital literacies of today and into the future? Come join a fireside chat with educators from the National Writing Project to explore these questions and also discuss some of the efforts being made to transform schools into places of interest-driven, youth-centered and networked learning spaces.

Process

Facilitated conversation that includes written reflections and protocols for sharing ideas.

Dealing with 5, 15, 50 participants

With 5 or 15 participants, we’ll be able to facilitate the conversation as a large group with moments in which smaller combinations of participants - pairs, for instance - will have a chance to interact. With 50 participants, that would still be possible. But we would consider smaller breakouts each led by one of the facilitators.

How Long Before Someone Can Teach This

Immediately afterward.

Outcomes

Development of an action plan - either individual or collective - based on written reflections for integrating digital literacies work into the K-12 school day. Continued connections and conversations between coders, hackers and other webmakers, educators, and the National Writing Project’s national (US) network of teachers to leverage collaborative learning moments for educators and youth.
