  • Title of session: Teaching Javascript with Thimble
  • Your name and affiliation: Chris McAvoy, Mozilla Foundation
  • Session format: Design Challenge

What will your session or activity allow people to make, learn or do?

Participants will explore a Javascript enabled version of Thimble, and help us think through how we can use JS in Thimble to teach programming.

How do you see that working?

We'll spend a few minutes showing the JS version of Thimble, then break into small teams to work on content.

How will you deal with 5, 15, 50 participants?

We'll divide the group into small teams of 3-5 people, each team will prototype a Javascript activity that works inside of Thimble.

How long within your session before someone else can teach this?

A half hour or so. The intent is to explore the idea, so groups should have an idea of what they'd be able to teach with Thimble & JS in a short amount of time. Ideally, groups would come prepared with some ideas to explore.

What do you see as outcomes after the festival?

We need to determine if JS is something we want to teach with Thimble, and if so - how Thimble needs to change to support it.
