  • Title of session: Make an animated GIF comic, hack an animation app with Meemoo
  • Your name and affiliation: Forrest Oliphant, http://meemoo.org/
  • Session format: Learning Lab

What will your session or activity allow people to make, learn or do?

Animated GIFs! At the most simple level, you can send images directly from the camera to the GIF animator. From there, we can experiment with image filters, green screen, and other image hacks.

Once we have our animated images, we can put them into a custom Thimble webpage to make an "animated comic strip" with titles and links (or Tumblr, Twitter, whatevr...).

How do you see that working?

We'll start by making a tiny animation with what is most handy, our faces! With this we'll get a feel for the timing of the loops. After that we can plan out a simple scene and build it up with clay, paper, scissors, pens, markers, glue, and tape.

How will you deal with 5, 15, 50 participants?

Split into teams with creative challenges.

How long within your session before someone else can teach this?

45 minutes

What do you see as outcomes after the festival?

Lots of cool animations to show on meemoo.org. Ideas and contributors for the framework.
