Title of session: Prototyping User-Generated Projects

Your name and affiliation: Mozilla Hive NYC

Session format: Design Challenge

What will your session or activity allow people to make, learn or do? Pulling inspiration from ideas and designs that come out of the design session, the Prototyping Projects session will bring designers, educators and developers together to hack on prototypes and develop learning pathways. People with ideas and designs for projects and related badges will bring together their design, copy, metadata and code into fully functional prototypes that help learners gain valuable web literacy skills.

How do you see that working? The session will invite a variety of skill sets to come together to hack. Participants of the session will break into groups that wish to focus on specific skills, interests or ideas. Each group will be encouraged to have a designer, a coder and an educator, but peer to peer collaboration will happen across groups. Each subset of participant will use their skills to create prototypes in just a few short hours.

How will you deal with 5, 15, 50 participants? We'll be paper-prototyping, designing and coding so there are multiple ways for people to collaborate and participated. No matter the number of participants, we'll find ways to work together to make functional prototypes.

How long within your session before someone else can teach this? When we work together, we learn together. Within minutes of joining the Prototyping Projects Session, participants will understand that no matter what skills they have, those skills are valuable when prototyping. They'll also learn that sharing those skills with others and giving insight and perspective on ideas and processes are valuable contributions to Webmaking. They'll be able to share that immediately.

What do you see as outcomes after the festival? The session will help populate the Learning Team's content queue and help solidify connections between educators, designers and developers. It will also lead to the development of interest based projects for individual participants or organizations.
