 * Session format: Design Challenge

What will your session or activity allow people to make, learn or do?

We will learn how to make a free, remixable, online textbook for WebCraft. Using existing free and open educational resources, we will use a new remixing, semantic web editor (slides:http://www.slideshare.net/oerpub/open-textbooks-creation-and-remixing-made-easy), to convert and combine materials into a single coherent book.

How do you see that working?

We will start with existing maps of needed content that have been prepped ahead of time and use the School of Webcraft at P2PU as a guide. We will use materials from Mozilla, P2PU, Saylor.org, Connexions, Open University's Lab Spaces, and other web sources. After a brief introduction of the project and resources, we will divide into small groups, each tackling a different set of topics. The groups will decide on materials needed, find resources, check reuse permissions, and use the remixing tool to convert and edit the resources. CC-BY materials can be published at Connexions, cnx.org. If time permits, groups will share links to their creations with P2PU course organizers.

How will you deal with 5, 15, 50 participants?

The entire group will be oriented through a 15 minute presentation (which can be shared online with latecomers.) We will divide into groups of 3-7 for working on individual sections. We will have several facilitators roaming and helping groups individually with the tools and processes.

How long within your session before someone else can teach this?

Within 1 to 1.5 hours participants should be comfortable orienting new people.

What do you see as outcomes after the festival?

A Webcraft Textbook Draft with participants able to continue extending, editing, and adapting afterwards. The textbook will be adaptable for use in peer learning, MOOCs, self-learning, and more.
