Status Report for Content Performance

Status for this project has moved to the mana. It's easier for to manage there. I will distill info into this wiki if people are feeling very strongly about it. Vladan has an excellent blog and so does Yoric for the general public.

Hot Topics

  • We're yellow because we need to land on a plan for Q3. Some options are:
    • Evaluate Top Sites
    • GFX Impact on Scrolling
    • Windows 10 Perf
    • e10s (single-tab use case)
      • e10s performance on the single-tab use case is no worse than non-e10s
      • e10s performance on the multi-tab use case is no worse than non-e10s
    • Figure out how to make dynamic websites reproducible
    • New Page Loading Tests
    • Identify good scrolling wins such as trackpad
  • We have a clear set of sites to focus on: Yahoo search results, Twitter, Facebook
  • Initial scrolling results can be found, here

Highlights and Accomplishments

  • Decision made to exclusively focus on Android 5.0+ and Windows 7, 8.1 & 10. Initially focus on Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo search results
  • Met with the 60fps team and have an agreed upon definition of how the two projects will coexist/collaborate
  • Identified top issues for platform team to focus on:
    • bug 1174899
    • Worse Firefox scrolling performance with laptop in power-save mode
    • Scrolling Twitter feed with YouTube HTML5 videos is jankier in Firefox
