"Submit data" is a Firefox OS feature that allows Mozilla to collect certain non-personal information (i.e., application usage and search engine provider information) which helps Mozilla to improve your search and device operating system overall performance by identifying bugs, understanding app usage and creating better content offerings on Marketplace.

What kinds of data does a Firefox OS device send to Mozilla?

Firefox OS devices send and Mozilla collects app usage data (e.g., active use time, counts of opens/closes/crashes, list of uninstalled apps on Firefox OS devices) and search engine provider information (i.e., which search engine provided search results to the device).

At Mozilla, our primary goal with collecting data from your Firefox OS device is to create value for our users from that data. In order to improve search, the overall performance of Firefox OS, and make better content recommendations, Mozilla needs data (i.e., relating to app usage and the search provider) and collecting data by having “Submit data” on by default allows Mozilla to accomplish this. Can Firefox OS users change their mind and enabled/disable “Submit data” later?

In case that a users disables “Submit data”, no further data will be shared with Mozilla. Previous data collected this way will be deleted after 180 days according to Mozilla’s Firefox OS Privacy Policy (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox-os/).
