The goal of these bi-weekly reports is to keep you informed and to get you excited about the work we are doing supporting Firefox products across the board. Please don't hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can do to improve this status update.

Identity Department Focus

The team is currently focused on three key objectives:

  • Fixing Sync - We must fix stability and usability issues in the present sync service
  • One way to log into firefox - A single email / password and experience for Mobile, Desktop, and Web products (like Marketplace)
  • Persona Adoption - We must quantify and increase the number of websites using Persona in Q3

Signin to the Web (Persona)

Project Overview:

  • Persona is designed to eliminate website passwords and empower users to choose their own identity online.
  • It's long term goal is to become a standardized and browser-native means of decentralized authentication on the Internet

Current status:

  • Websites can now more easily customize the Persona popup, as website logos can now be hosted on other domains (like CDNs) or sent as data URIs.
  • In response to issues with the Mozilla LDAP / Persona provider, Persona now detects and warns users with incompatible third party cookie settings.
  • We rolled out small visual updates and simplifications throughout the Persona dialog and confirmation emails.
  • We completed many API bug fixes involving case sensitivity and erroneous callbacks.

Upcoming Persona Events in San Francisco & Mountain View in September: Mozilla Persona: Simple Sign-in for the Web. Join us to learn more & hack! Are you building, managing, or owning a website or a web-app where users need to sign-in? Join us to learn more about Persona, a simple "sign-in with email" for the Web, developed by Mozilla. We'll be providing an overview of Persona followed by a Q&A session where you can ask any question you have for us. After Q&A, we'll be hosting a mini-hack session for participants who are interested in getting started implementing Persona right away and getting support from Persona developers who will be present in the event.

Profile in the Cloud (PiCL)

Project Overview:

  • We're going to take the interesting data in your Firefox Profile and move it to the cloud - make it possible to access and manage this data from web apps, mobile apps, and all of our products - Mobile, Dekstop, and OS.
  • PiCL is a project whose short term goal is to fix firefox sync.
  • The long term goal to give users easy access to their Firefox data from any device.

Persona Analytics

Project Overview: Measuring Persona: User adoption, website adoption, error discovery, etc.

Current Activities:

  • Hannah Quay-de la Vallee presented the results of the first A/B test in her intern presentation: https://air.mozilla.org/intern-presentation-quay-de-la-valee/
  • Audited the RP data, came up with a few ideas for segmentation. We have a PR to make this data available to the dashboard and are working on privacy review.

- Did a quick look at performance data to establish we haven't seen worse performance recently (eventually we'll add this to the dashboard)

For more information about our metrics effort, visit our Persona Analytics page and KPI Dashboard [LDAP required].
