Release testing is a focused testing effort with one or more release Milestones (examples: Beta 4, RC1). This testing is to catch string changes, dialogue formatting changes, or anything that might break compatibility with a locale (fonts, RTL, build issues). The is best done by people who are very analytical and diligent to have the patience to do this type of regression testing. The tests performed can be the L10n litmus smoke tests or other exploratory testing.

Levels for Release Testing:

  1. No release testing
  2. Testing the final RC
  3. Add testing of Beta releases
  4. Add testing of the all RC releases

Comments:

  1. How is this different for beta-testers?
  • These are focused testers before release. Someone goes through explicit tests (like smoke tests) to see if there are regressions.
  • Axel: this is more "pre-release testing"?
  1. Do we need to change terminology so everyone understands?
