L10n Android Unsupported Locales
In Android projects such as Focus and Rocket, we're utilizing a2po to convert between PO files used by Pontoon and XML files used by Android Apps.
Sadly, since a2po uses Babel internally to recognize locales, which lacks support to certain locales, extra work is needed when we want to enable such locales.
The Focus team have done some work to Wrap this. This is the commit where Rocket have leveraged the work.
With these work in place, to add another unsupported locale, one would only need to add some metadata of such locale. This is an example of what should be done.
Note that we're setting a new locale plural form with "a counterpart that is of the same format" rather than the format itself. Part of the reason we have this page is to give a table for quick future lookup of plural form -> counterpart.
Plural Format | Counterpart | Known Locale |
---|---|---|
other | id | meh, mix, wo, jv, su, ace, gor |
one, other | es | ia |
one, other | az | cak, zam, trs |
one, other | fi | oc, an, tt |
one, other | bg | anp, mai |
one, other | pt | quy |
one, other | de | tsz, ixl, ay, quc |
other | lo | pai |
P.S. to test what locales are supported by Bebel, one can run `pybabel --list-locales`
