MDN Session at Mozilla 2010 Summit

At the Mozilla 2010 Summit, Jay, Sheppy, and Janet presented a breakout session on plans for MDN and changes so far. Jay used essentially the same slides as for his brown bag presentation about MDN. Sheppy showed some additional slides that he whipped up on his iPad.

The presentations were followed by audience discussion, which focused mainly on localization. These are a few notes that Janet wrote on a handy easel pad:

  • Localizing overviews and tutorials is more important than reference info. Many developers can understand reference info in English, but are more comfortable when explanations are in their language.
  • The better the process docs are, the more people will help with process.
  • Need current localization process and wishlist for localization.
  • Need docs about tasks in the contributor funnel (e.g., file a bug, submit a patch).
  • Require? docs as part of the development process.
