How are you currently involved with the community?: Through FUEL, we are currently working with several Asian language community of which almost 15 languages are working with Mozilla. FUEL is working to create consistency and standardization in the field of localization and so efforts of FUEL directly effects the Mozilla Product and its quality. The project is hugely successful and appreciated by Indian Community, Govt organizations and other companies working in the field of localization and e-Gov including Red Hat, C-DAC, State Govt, Indlinux, Sarai to name a few.

Summary: FUEL (Community Wiki; Project Website) is a hugely successful community project. It is supported by more than twenty organizations including Red Hat, C-DAC, State Govt, Indlinux, Sarai etc. On the idea of collaborative innovation, FUEL is a process-set that is adopted by several language community, organizations and companies desiring to assess their readiness for localization by providing base register of words, style and convention guides and quality assurance techniques.

Where Mozilla is in FUEL:

During the creation of modular list of FUEL, Firefox was taken to represent from the browser side. So through FUEL implementation process, we ensured the quality of localized Firefox. Mozilla is 'GROW'ing and so it needs a defined process-set to examine the quality of Mozilla product whether it is desktop browser, or mobile or even OS.

FUEL aims at solving the Problem of Inconsistency and Lack of standardization in Software Translation across the platform. It works to provide a standardized and consistent look of computer for a language users. FUEL works to create linguistic and technical resources like standardized terminology resources, computer translation style and convention guides, and assessment methodologies.

How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals: Mozilla products are available in c.80 languages. There is lots of things are needed to done on consistency and quality front of localization work. FUEL project resources is used hugely by localization community of different languages in Firefox localizations. So the experience if shared with community working with the localization of different products of Mozilla will give its benefit to more languages and products.

Expected Outcome or Deliverable: Awareness in audience about localization quality, Importance of standardization and consistency and how these can be ensured in Mozilla Products
