MediaWiki upgraded to 1.23.5

MediaWiki has been upgraded to version 1.23.5. (release notes)

Empty edit summary prompt preference changed

We have enabled by default the preference that prompts you when you make an edit without providing an edit summary. This is to encourage best practice: Always provide a summary of the change you're making.

Turning off this behavior

Some people might find this new behavior disruptive to their workflow. While we do not encourage turning off this reminder, it is controlled by a regular user preference, so you can set it how you wish:

PreferencesEditing → Editor → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary

New string parsing functions

We have also enabled a powerful new set of string parsing functions. (Example: User:Ckoehler/Tests/Replace)

Other configuration changes

  • 'Sandstone' customizations are now implemented via a MediaWiki extension rather than via Vector.css and Common.css.
  • Account approvers no longer receive email notification of pending requests. They should visit Special:Watchlist to determine if there are any pending requests.
  • The minimum words required for the bio field on the Special:RequestAccount form has been reduced from 50 to 15.
  • Registered and autoconfirmed users now have access to the writeapi, enabling certain AJAX-dependent UX features.
