Who Is In The FX OS QA Community

An overview of the FX OS QA Community based on the larger Mozilla Community.

Who makes up the FX OS QA Community

Most smartphones are made by a small number of people, all in one place, probably pretty far from where you live. Firefox OS phones are different. They’re made by a huge global community and are the only smartphones that understand and deliver what you want and need. In order to continually improve the FX OS product, we need the help of testers around the globe.

Casual Contributor

Join the FX OS team as a casual contributor! Casual contributors volunteer small amounts of time in an activity. Requirements may include at least one of the listed examples. We look forward to your participation!

  • Mission impact: Casual contributors create real value for the development of the FX OS operating system by reporting feedback.
  • Estimated size: Thousands of People all over the world

Requirements:

  • Complete one FX OS One and Done task
  • Run the mini-smoketest in One and Done
  • Light usage tasks with the Flame device such as:
    • Take a picture
    • Load 10 websites
    • Create a Firefox Account

Active Contributor

An active contributor is someone who has volunteered substantial time performing FX OS QA activities in a sustained fashion, usually lasting several months. Requirements include one or more of the listed examples.

  • Mission impact: Active contributors are contributing important feedback on on ongoing basis that is helping with the continued development of FX OS.
  • Estimated size: Hundreds of people

Requirements:

  • Focused feature testing
  • Performing regular testing activities in One and Done
  • Owns a Flame device and is actually using it on a daily basis
  • Submit feedback/complete surveys on a regular basis
  • Join the dev-gaia or dev-b2g Mailing list
  • Attend a FX OS Bug Bash!

Core contributor

This level reflects a substantial commitment to the FX OS QA team. A core contributor is someone who serves in a leadership position on the FX OS QA team. We can connect you with tasks and opportunities that can lead to this level. Requirements include one or more of the listed examples.

  • Mission impact: Core contributors have significant impact in the project, exhibiting demonstrated leadership and helping to drive community testing initiatives.
  • Goal size: 10-50 people

Requirements:

  • Coordinate FX OS test events in their community or region
  • Assist community members in getting hardware
  • Actively recruits new community members
  • Help train new community members
  • Create and maintain MozTrap test cases
