Win7 SDK Builds Testing

The build team is working on generating Firefox builds for Windows using the Windows 7 SDK. The team will generate some initial builds, prior to incorporating the process into the build system. QA will have to check these builds to make sure they can be installed, run, uninstalled, updated across all currently supported Windows platforms.

Testing

We will get builds from here (TBD). We will run spot checks based on the Smoketests across all Windows platforms, with a special focus on installing (default/custom locations), running (basic functionality), uninstalling and updating.

You don't have to run the litmus smoketest suite by the book, but use it to guide your testing. There should not be any difference between the installers we currently distribute, and these new ones generated using the Win7 SDK.

Focus:

• Installation (default/custom/pave-over)
• Basic Functionality (try different types of sites)
• Add-on/plugin, Places (check before/after update)
• Update (minor/complete)
• Uninstall

Windows 7 (juanb)

• Notes:
  • Installation (default, custom, pave-over), un-installation (removing all data, leaving data and reusing it with downgrade installation), basic functionality (checking mail, https, video, bookmarks, feeds, PM, Aero Peek, search plugin changes), some add-ons... Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
  • Tested updates by modifying the update channel preference to nightly and I got offered an update to the latest nightly which I downloaded. It applied correctly.

Windows Vista (tchung)
