Exploratory workarounds

  • Is the device responsive?
    • Yes, it was. I've still see some low performance but it is much better that the PerfectoMobile's one. Also an improvement of this solution is the fact that one can use the PC's keyboard (alphanumeric characters )to enter an url (couldn't do that with PerfectoMobile.) The response of the device is not delayed, almost as natural as on a real phone. Only with the HTC Incredible the response was bad and broken cause I couldn't even unlock it (with the known difference for drag). Also, there are the phones that have blocked applications from unknown sources (like those from AT&T). The Android SDK won't recognize a device like this to be able to install the apk through it.
    • The panning here was improved but still heavy to execute with the ctrl thing. The double tapping was pretty ok, no issues found. Tapping is different because being on a link won't highlight it. I did not have the time to investigate the change from landscape to portrait (no quick button there). The pinch is still not possible to be done.
  • Does the network quality meter stay in the green range?
    • Yes, there were no connection problems.
  • How would this tool change your process?
    • Another improvement brought by DeviceAnywhere is that there were more than one available device (might be teh account setting.) Same usability as Perfecto though: we will have access to many devices to compare and also to use same device in the same time more people and another benefit will be that we could use screen cast and record (desktop recording) faster and easier.
  • Is it a good tool?
    • It is pretty good tool, and more accurate than the PerfectoMobile one . As for this, same problems found : double tapping, pinch (two fingers behavior), changing from landscape to portrait, accelerated panning.
  • Other feedback and comments
    • Is a much better solution than PerfectoMobile, having speed and input improvements. It's a good tool but there will still be differences between it and a real device (to consider - the real ones deal with all user's common problem (battery heating, quick changes between viewing, low battery etc. ).
    • As a final statement, Devices Anywhere is a better solution than PerfectoMobile for on-desktop devices.
