Releases/Firefox 5/RC Signoffs

This page will track declaring the latest mozilla-beta build as a release candidate.

Please note that issues found in the final moments of the beta period may still require us to rebuild before release

Focus Areas

Stability

Current Status

  • 400k users on b5
  • b6 just went out today
  • About 1.5 million users across all 5.0 beta builds
  • Nothing too be worried about, but not sure audience is big enough
  • There aren't any bugs we know we have to fix

Outstanding Issues/Concerns

  • Haven't processed beta 6 feedback yet
  • Concerns about audience size

Add-ons

Current Status

  • AVG will be ready
  • McAfee will be ready
  • Symantec hopes they will be ready, the binary compat change in b2(3?) caught them by surprise
    • They have a build that works on 4 and 5
  • Skype hopes to be ready
  • Yahoo will be ready
  • Done outreach to the top 35 add-ons (w/ binary components) that are not on AMO
    • Most part response will be that they will be ready
  • AMO is at 78% of 95% of add-ons
  • Most of the outstanding AMO add-ons are binary
    • Cooliris was blocked on a bug that was fixed

Outstanding Issues/Concerns

  • Biggest concern is security vendors
  • Symantec doesn't have an ETA yet
  • Have not got a response from some folks
    • Large one is the Google toolbar
      • They are aware of it, got ack
  • Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant has high users and isn't compatible
    • Shouldn't impact users too much materially
    • Concern that users will see the compat warning anyway and not update
  • Kev will talk to Garmin
  • Jorge will talk to Shaver to talk to MS
  • Jorge will try to get in contact with the FoxTab developer
  • Support is concerned about Conduit
    • Jorge has contact info, he will contact w/ Cww
  • Support is concerned about not having enough data/visibility
  • Not as concerned as of a couple weeks ago

Security

Current Status

Outstanding Issues

  • Concerned about bug 664009, will be disclosed between Firefox 5 and 6
    • We decided to rebuild for this

Localization

Current Status

  • Getting close to resolving what we are going to call all 86 builds
  • We've been triaging all the "beta" locales trying to get that list down
  • Think we're in very good shape

Outstanding Issues/Concerns

  • None

Build Mechanics

Current Status

  • bhearsum has been setting up the releases/mozilla-release repo
  • A number of hours of being done
    • Even if it wasn't done, we could do some manual hackery off of releases/mozilla-beta

Outstanding Issues/Concerns

  • Need to know if we should throttle or not
    • Ideally we know before the build off of releases/mozilla-release

Web Content

Current Status

  • Almost complete, expecting everything to be done on Friday

Outstanding Issues/Concerns

  • Release notes aren't finished yet
  • A few pages may not be completely localized
    • Nothing that would stop a release

Mobile Engineering

  • bug 664114 - Context Menu doesn't resize properly when switching the window orientation
    • Reported on 6/14
