What social media is good for

Mozilla has always spread first and foremost by word-of-mouth. As more and more social networking venues appear, there are more and more potential communications channels. As the launch of Firefox 3 showed, the power of word-of-mouth through a wide variety of communications channels helped start a record-breaking level of participation.

What to share

As a Rep you'll have lots of activities and news to share with your followers.

  • Upcoming events
  • News and pictures from local and global events you took part in
  • Other people's posts that your followers would enjoy
  • Introduce about Mozilla's projects
  • Mozilla News
  • Mozilla Updates
  • Mozilla experience

What not to share

  • Inappropriate contents, photos, pictures, videos
  • Material mocking other browsers
  • Internal discussions

Social media groups for your region/project

Each region has a different approach and use of the media. In some cases it's inevitable to have a group of people to work specifically on a project or in a region. This aims to have structured presence in the social media and to avoid redundant work and unnecessary information.

Checking for existing ones

We need a list of the different social media groups sorted by region and projects. For every group we need to know how to contact them.

Using groups effectively

Blogging and Tagging

Using specific tags so that other people can find your content is particularly useful when blogging about Mozilla, or sharing other content, such as videos or photographs.

The following are examples of tags that have been used in the past for Mozilla events.

Event Tag
Mozilla Addon Workshop Paris 2008 MAOW08
Mozilla Camp Europe 2008 mozcamp08
Mozilla Addon Workshop Berlin 2009 maowberlin09
Community Meeting Stockholm 2009 stomozcom

Mozilla Developer Day Prague 2009 mozdevday09
Mozilla Camp Europe Prague 2009 eumozcamp09

Which social media to use

These are just some of the sites where someone can share content. Here's a (non-exhaustive) list of different social media Mozilla Reps might be interested in using to spread the word about Mozilla and their activities:
