What

The Security team at Mozilla will host a regular “walk-in” open mic session. The goal of these sessions it to create a time and space (on Vidyo) for people who want to discuss security and learn to come and ask questions.

Each session will feature a host and at least two supporting members of the security team, and security team members not attending other meetings are encouraged to participate if it does not impact their work day.

As a way to preload the security discussion each session will start with a quick 10 minute overview of an issue related to the expertise of the host. This ensures that there is a compelling reason to participate, and sets the stage for additional discussion. If there is no time to prepare, an overview of major security issues or events that occurred in the last week would is a simple stand-in!

Hosting a Session

As the host of an Open Mic Session you are expected:

  • To be on time and in Vidyo at the start of the meeting
  • Have a brief intro topic prepared to seed discussion
  • Ensure that you have a designated scribe and at least one other team member to help out

Scribe

As the scribe of an Open Mic Session you are expected:

  • To produce meeting minutes
  • Expunge meeting minutes of any confidential or sensitive data
  • Post the meeting minutes to the wiki

Why

With a shift towards engineering and resolving outstanding issues, and a move away from pre-scheduled sec review slots we wanted to ensure that the Mozilla community retains an easy way to engage in security discussions.

As a way to preload the security discussion each session will start with a quick review of any high profile security releases or incidents that have happened in the industry in the last week, and encourage discussion of them.
