move with redirect
Hi, thx for advice concerning SeaMonkey:Own Sync, I know that moving is the better way (I was Wikipedia Admin, long ago during the exciting early days). Unfortunately I never checked what useful functions might be hidden behind the "▼" left from the search string input line. Now I will know better in future. -- Rrbd (talk) 06:47, 11 May 2015 (PDT)

Dear GPHemsley,

I see you've done a bunch of good work maintaining the Mozilla wiki.
Forgive me for only messaging you when things go wrong.

I see you recently moved several pages without leaving a redirect.

My understanding is that such moves without a redirect -- for example, page DOM:Home Page to DOM/Links -- instantly breaks all 7 internal Mozilla wiki links to that page and some unknown number of external links to that page.

How is this different from what Tim Berners-Lee ranted about in "Cool URIs don't change"?

Wouldn't it be better to move pages with a redirect,
so people who click on those links still end up at the same content (but with a small note about the redirect)?
