People are bombarded with messages from all the people (and things) in their lives. They constantly check their phones so they don't miss the most important ones. The result: fear, anxiety, and stress.
Many of these messages are simple changes in status for the people and things<refsup>"things" include software services1</refsup> in our lives. Most don’t need our attention - we follow a lot of people (and things) “just in case” there is a time when their status changes matter to us. Yet we must pay attention to all of them in order to see the ones that most matter to us.
Offloading changes in status from the phone allows us to focus our attention on the people (and things) that matter to us.
