= Environmental Sustainability =
We’re in a climate crisis. The We know that the internet contributes 2% of significantly to the world’s global carbon emissions. And it's only growingBut we also believe in the internet’s potential.
How So how can we reduce emissions and advocate for advance a more sustainable internet? What else could the open internet do for the planet? We invite technologists, designers, climate political minds, activists and citizens who care about the internet and the our planet to dream imagine alternatives and develop these idea and even more ambitious ones potential ideas for the future together.
This is On our journey to environmental sustainability, we’ve started by weaving different pieces of exploration into a collection of explorations to spark conversation and build collaborations towards larger picture. We’re adopting a time lens (more sustainable interneton each below):* The past: Visit our Museum of the Fossilized Internet. We're making art, because these topics are complex and entangled* The present: That’s us, and art can open up creative understanding and new ways of thinking. We're making open, collaborative documents so that we can share about what we're learning to do and contribute why.* The Future: Contribute to what already existsthe wiki of 1000 ideas and help develop future scenarios.
We're looking at individual All of these are designed to spark conversation, generate bold, actionable ideas, and collective approaches, because initiate collaborations towards a more sustainable future requires us internet -- and all of these are open to do our partsharing and contributing. We’re exploring art because environmental sustainability is complex and entangled and art doesn’t just open up creative understanding, it also allows us to paint a more holistic picture without prioritising which issue to tackle first. Individual and collective action need to go together, because everyone can do their part but we also need systemic change. It is also We’re not about vilifying looking to vilify people or behaviorsbehaviours, but rather a genuine effort instead we’re inviting everyone to figure join our journey in figuring out how to do better, and what that even means.
