+I love this idea!  Feedreader has something like this (preset, I think).  User-configurable is the way to go.
+Sorry for burying this, but please enable search in the menu Bookmarks drop-down also and in the bookmark manager for managing more than one folder at a time.  Also, non-permanent sorts for management purposes, as well as just looking for bookmarks might be useful.
+I don't use the sidepanel.  I might, if it was auto-hide like in Windows toolbars.
