Q: What happens when a plugin crashes in Firefox with crash protection?
Crash Protection is the name of the Firefox feature based on Gecko's [[Firefox/Projects/OOPP|out of process plugins]] technology. It first shipped in Firefox 3.6.4 for Windows and Linux only, running Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime and Microsoft Silverlight in a separate process called <tt>plugin-container</tt>.
A: Firefox reduces browser crashes by such a significant number with this release because plugin crashes are isolated from the rest of the page. When a plugin crashes or freezes while using Firefox with crash protection, it is completely isolated to prevent the entire page, other open tabs and the entire browser from crashing. People can enjoy uninterrupted browsing if their games or video stop working by simply refreshing the page.
