There has been an increasing use of badges across a number of Web sites, network services, and gaming platforms over the last several years. Badges are used for a variety of reasons including rewarding achievement, encouraging different forms of user engagement, or simply for the fun of it. | |||

Thus, an idea was suggested for creating a ''digital backpack'' could allow you to store aBadges/Overviewnd display badges that you have picked-up from many different sites across the web and to associate them with ''you'' (your online identity). For many of us, this idea is especially exciting in the context of open learning sites, since it would allow learners and learning communities to coordinate their collaborations around issuing badges and accepting badges from different projects; as well as one context and system through which we can explore new models of educational assessment and certification. <br> | |||
