Stub Installer Deployment

• Feature Name: Firefox Desktop Stub Installer
• Problem/Opportunity Statement: Increase download to install conversions
• Impact on Mozilla Goals: Positive impact on ADI growth
• Release Timing: ASAP in October
• Key Requirements for Delivery:
  • a ~200kb Windows downloader app that wraps our existing installer deployed with sufficient testing to minimize risk to new users (scope of original feature)
  • streamlined Installer user flow
  • dynamic marketing channel inside of the stub/downloader
  • deployed with sufficient measurements to determine efficacy
• Current Status: Stub Installer development, including expanded scope items, completed. Testing, deployment, and measurement still pending.

10/1/12 Meeting Notes:

• Engineering & QA Update / Rob Strong and Jason Smith
  • Engineering - Release is ready for QA
  • QA - Test plan is ready to go, Jason just needs the information on the location of the release. 1-3 days of testing
  • Test the build, today/tomorrow to verify functionality. Then work to get it manually signed.

• Metrics Testing Plan / Anurag & Gilbert
  • 2-3 days, if this looks good, they will do a 3 day full test on Thurs, Friday and Saturday on beta/aurora.
  • Phase 2 would involve a 90/10 split.

• Deployment Plan / Laura, Corey, and Jake
  • Catlee - has the build up right now. Another patch is running through try to get the signing working.

    • Bouncer needs SSL support - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795439

    • For nightly and aurora builds, we may want fallback pages on mozilla.org - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795444
    • This work will take at least 2 weeks, 10/15 is a very aggressive date for this all to be complete.

• Mozillians Communication Plan / Laura F.
  • Working on a communication that will go to the mozillians list, a call for action to test. Feedback will go to an email group that is being setup.

• Paxton and Laura to work on documenting the deployment channel permutations
• Corey/Laura/Jake to generate a deployment and test plan for stub install by end of day Friday - sent out Friday
